This upper and lower roof space is perfectly positioned for golden hour enjoyment. Although the brief was straight forward as the roof was neglected and unused, the clients had a clear foresight of how the space was to be maximised and used to their advantage. This charming home belonging to a village in the centre of Malta has the roof floor as its external area for entertainment, therefore proposing an outdoor kitchen area connecting with a bar, a dining table and a lounge area upstairs addressed all the requirements the clients were looking for in an outdoor area.
Laying stone coloured 80x 80 flooring tiles, painting the existing low wall white and adding new light fittings transforms the space into a a fresh and bright spot at any time of the day. The existing stone ballavostri sitting on the perimeter of the roof room lends an attractive atmosphere to the roof space that integrates with features of the rest of the of the house. Proposing to line the low wall with narrow pots planted with cascading plants gives the area of the roof and interesting feel. Once seated, one can experience the chosen planting in pots that is scattered around the roof area, accompanied by a beautiful view of Cupressus sempervirens and Pinus halepensis often found planted in Malta's urban fabric.
